When The World Hands You Lemons…

Nobody said it was going to be easy. The business world is full of twists and turns and those who adapt to them best, usually come out the victors.

As we wrote about several months ago, the meeting industry was presented with a major disruptor when Marriott Hotels cut booking commissions paid to meeting planners 30% – from 10% to 7%. That was followed in short order by both Hilton and Hyatt.

We noted then that we have remained realistic in the face of these changes and this month we wanted to share a little deeper insight into how we’re responding.

With great, industry-disrupting changes come challenges and opportunities that require adroit responses.

“There’s no doubt the decisions made by these hotel chains have caused a fresh perspective for our business/industry.” admits NHS Global Events President Bill Lynch. “We have assessed the situation and used it to strengthen our key partnerships. As entrepreneurs, we realize that the market will change, yet NHS Global Events’ focus to provide stellar service for our key clients is only enhanced!”

In the intervening time since Marriott made its original decision to alter its commission structure, the company has seen a drop in their group market share and their stock price decrease.

As Bill notes, “We also know that if we maintain deep and transparent relationships with our clients, the service we provide daily is sought after and of value to our buyers.”

Many other hotel brands like Four Season’s, Loew’s, Accor (Fairmont, Sofitel), MGM, and Omni have taken this situation to increase their group share and offer viable hotels for our clients.

To learn more about the strategy NHS Global Events has adopted in the face of these changes, feel free to give Bill a call.
